Tips for helping a blind dog adjust

Pooches at Play co-host and NDTF qualified dog trainer, Lara Shannon, meets Marie and her blind dog Mala to provide some tips for helping blind dogs and advice for helping Mala the Pug to adjust to her life in the dark.

Lara shows how tapping into a dog’s sense of smell and hearing can help them be fully adjusted by up to 3 months. Using essential oils to mark out important areas and rooms, to using a wind chime by the back door, Lara talks out through mapping out a house to keep a blind dog safe and help them navigate their way around the home.

She shows how to keep a home hazard free for a blind dog, how to help them learn to get up and down stairs, as well as providing other general tips for helping blind dogs to adjust and stay safe.
