Visiting Lilydale in Melbourne with your dog

If you’re after an awesome caravan and camping spot to head to with your dog, just a short drive from the Melbourne CBD, then look no further than Lilydale, in the Yarra Valley.

The caravan and camping lifestyle is one of discovery, and there’s so much to discover in this hort trip from the city.   It’s perfect for a short stay or even a day out with your dog.

Where to stay when caravanning in Lilydale

If you’re going to explore Lilydale and the Yarra Valley, then the Lilydale Pine Hill Caravan Park is the place to base yourself. They are very pet friendly and welcome both dogs and cats here.

There are great sites for the van and fantastic facilities, plus you’ll be in the middle of all the things to see and do in the area.

Make sure you call ahead of your visit to let them know you’re bringing your pooch, and book in advance because it’s a popular place.

Lilydale Lake

Lilydale Lake is an oasis in the middle of suburbia. It’s a peaceful spot, ideal for a walk, where you can spend your time looking at waterbirds who call the lake and Olinda Creek home.

There’s rumours of platypus having been seen here too. There’s play equipment for the kids. Lots of tracks to walk along, barbecue areas, a beach and fishing jetties. It’s perfect for a family day out!

Lilydale Rail Trail

For those of you looking for an active way to see the area, or just a nice walk to take your pooch on, then check out the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail.

It’s 40km long and follows the path of the historic railway line through the Yarra Valley. You can split it into sections and do it over a few days, or organise someone to meet you at the other end and tackle it all in one go.

Carriage Café Seville 

The Carriage Café in Seville is the perfect spot for some breakfast or lunch while in the area. It’s people and pet friendly and there’s even a spot to tie up your horse. The old railway carriage was built over 100 years ago, and is perfectly in keeping with the theme for anyone headed out on the rail trail.

Be prepared for traveling with your dog

Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are all up to date and you have a copy of the certificate as you will need it.  Ensure they are wearing an ID tag and their microchip is up to date.
