Visiting Wodonga in Victoria with your dog

Wodonga

It’s no secret to caravanners that Wodonga is a great place to park up and spend a week or so relaxing.

In fact, there’s even a massive caravanning expo here every year called the Border Expo, though in 2020 this will be replaced with a virtual show.

Wodonga is on the main route when heading north from Melbourne to escape the Winter, or south from the hot states during Summer.

Wodonga is an ideal stopover to unhitch the van, pop your pooch on a leash and stretch the legs while checking out all the pet friendly things to do.

Apart from the obvious appeal of a stroll along the Murray River, there’s a thriving township with lots of cafes, shops, galleries and restaurants waiting to be explored.

Where to stay when caravanning in Wodonga

Wodonga Caravan & Cabin Park is a great base to explore the many tourist attractions of the Albury-Wodonga region, the Murray River and the High Country and is pet-friendly.

Being located just off the Hume Highway between Sydney and a 3 hour drive from Melbourne, they offer a range of accommodation including pet-friendly cabins for those visitors that aren’t caravanning.

BIG4 Borderland Wodonga is just 3km from Wodonga town centre. An ideal location for an overnight stay to break up a long drive or a longer holiday to enjoy all the beautiful Murray Region has to offer. BIG4 Borderland Wodonga is perfect for exploring local historic towns, wineries and Lake Hume. With a choice of comfortable cabin accommodation and affordable powered sites for caravans and camping.

They also have a dog-friendly cabin but check availability when booking. There are also two dog kennels on offer which can be located beside any of their cabins, while they also have dog friendly caravan sites and a dog run.

Parks to visit with your dog when visiting Wodonga

Belvoir Park is the complete package for anyone traveling with their pooch. You’ve got the off leash area with all the agility equipment for them to play on.

There’s a children’s play area, a nice little walk that does a lap of the lake, and there’s rest areas around the park so you can sit a relax for a bit. The dog park is located at Belvoir Park on Reuss Rd, near Church St, Wodonga.

Just across the river is another great spot to head to, Noreuil Park, where you can take a walk with your dog, and if the weather’s warm enough, have a swim too in the Murray River.

Sadly at the present time of writing, it is not possible to travel across to Albury due to the border restrictions, but do put it in your plans when it is finally possible to travel between these two bordering towns.

Be prepared for traveling with your dog

Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are all up to date and you have a copy of the certificate as you will need it.  Ensure they are wearing an ID tag and their microchip is up to date.
