Visiting Castlemaine in Victoria with your dog

Castlemaine

Castlemaine combines the homely feel of a country town, with the convenience you get in the city.

There’s something for everyone here and is an awesome location to head to on a caravan and camping holiday or road trip in Victoria.

Where to stay when caravanning in Castlemaine

Dogs and cats are now welcome at the BIG4 Castlemaine Gardens Holiday Park. Dogs & cats are welcome to stay on a limited number of powered and unpowered camping and caravan sites.

Make sure you call ahead on 1300 472 762 to register your dog with your booking. Pets are not permitted inside their Cabin accommodation and you should find out all other rules before arriving.

The park is adjacent to the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens and a large open grassed area also abuts the Park. These facilities may be used for walking your dog.

Once you’ve setup the van and gotten yourself organised, take a drive out to the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park. Unfortunately as it is a national park, dogs are not allowed, but Assistance Dogs are.

Find a dog sitter in the local area as back up

It is always a good idea before heading away to any location that you ask about or find a local dog minder or doggy day care that can take your dog when you want to visit places where dogs are not allowed in Castlemaine.

A site like Dogshare or Pawshake can assist you in finding a local person that will be more than happy to look after your dog for a while.  The Dogshare site even has people happy to do it for free just to have a furry companion to hang out with for the day.

Be prepared for traveling with your dog
