Visiting Warrnambool with your dog

Outside of Port Philip Bay, Warrnambool is Victoria’s largest coastal city, but you could be forgiven for thinking it’s just a sleepy little town. It’s a quiet, pretty and historic place with a lot more happening than you’d expect and it is a great place to head to if caravan or camping with your dog.

There’s a thriving public art scene in Warrnambool and it’s encouraged by the local council. All around the place there are awesome murals and street art, each with their own story so you can take a wander with your dog to check them all out.

The Ngatanwarr Mural is on the corner of Merri and Kepler Street and is a very  impressive piece of art. It’s called the welcome mural, and incorporates information about significant cultural sites and stories of the areas indigenous people, as well as the Great South Coast region. It’s quite a powerful image and has incredible detail.

The Mothers and Daughters artwork on Stanley St, near breakwater is the work of art that’s the closest to the ocean, and fittingly, it features whales. It’s called Mothers and Daughters and kids from the local kindergarten contributed to it.

As Pooches at Play co-host Morgan shows you in this video, taking your dog for a walk along the  Foreshore Promenade is also a must, and you can stop off at Simon’s at the Waterfront café.

Not far from the breakwater is the Pavilion Café which is another dog friendly spot in Warrnambool. While you can’t take your dog on the tour, when in Warrnambool make sure you check out the Middle Island Penguin Project and meet the gorgeous Maremma Ambassador  dogs.
