Springtime is not only the season for shedding, but also for more allergies in our pets, so we have some Springtime grooming tips to help them look and feel good.
Dogs tend to spend more time outdoors running around on the grass, more pollens are in the air and the tick and flea season can mean more flea allergy dermatitis, all resulting in itchy, scratching dogs.
Weekly brushing
As the weather warms up, brushing your dog’s hair at least once a week, or more for longer coats, will help to reduce excess hair, reduce shedding and matts. The DGG detangling brush or flexi-slicker brush are good for most coats.
Keeping double coated dogs cooler
Removing the undercoat on dogs with a double coat in the warmer months is one of the most important Springtime grooming tips, as it is vital to let their skin breath and allows the outer coat to circulate the air through.
Shaving a double coated dog in the warmer weather is not recommended as it is the outer coat that helps keep them cool
Use the DGG De-shedding rake or, for the thicker double coats, the serrated de-matting tool can also help stop knots and matting.
Trimming their fur
Another of our key Springtime grooming tips to help keep away grass seeds and allergens is to keep your dog’s paws, bottoms and around their eyes trimmed in between professional grooms too.
Bathing
Regular baths using a mild dog shampoo can help keep your dog clean and healthy.
If they have sensitive skin or allergies, the DGG Colloidal Oatmeal Shampoo and Conditioner also contains Aloe Vera to help soothe and heal aggravated skin, while the Shed Control Shampoo can help excessive shedders which is one of our key Springtime grooming tips.
The DGG range is Australian made with no nasty chemicals, is pH balanced for dogs, and not tested on animals.
Don’t over wash
Another of our Springtime grooming tips is to be careful not to bathe your dog too frequently, as it can strip their coat of natural oils.
Using their Bamboo wipes is good after walks to wipe away any dirt, but also the allergens they can pick up on walks.
Make sure to wipe down their feet, legs and bellies daily to help with any irritants.
Springtime allergies can also cause ear infections, so regularly check their ears and gently give them a wipe, drying them thoroughly after washing or wiping as well.
Flea & Tick protection
One of our final Springtime grooming tips is to make sure their tick and flea prevention is up to date and talk to your Vet if you see an increase in your dog licking or biting their feet or other areas, which may require further intervention to help keep them healthy and comfortable.
You can find the DGG range at your local pet specialty store, including PETstock. Check out the DGG website for more information about this great Australian company and their grooming and apparel range.
